Here are some basic guidelines to help you care for your nappies:
MACHINE WASH:
1.) FLUSH
As nappy comes off baby, flush any solid matter down the loo and dispose of liners or use fleece liners which can also be washed. Exclusively breast fed baby poo is water soluble and will rinse off in a normal wash.
2.) STORE
Place diapers in a aerated basket (no lid) or wet bag, until wash day. Do not soak your modern cloth nappies as it damages elastics.
3.) RINSE
Remove inserts (if necessary) and place nappies in the machine. You can use cold/ warm (up to 35°C) water on your rinse cycle to remove solid matter and urine.
4.) WASH
Wash with any detergent (no fabric softener) on 35-40 degrees on the longest cycle of your machine – usually the cotton cycle for good agitation
~ For stains, sunlight bar soap or boerseep and the sun (in summer especially) is a great form of bleaching!
5.) DRY
Line dry nappies inside out or tumble dry on low heat
6.) STORE
Once dry they can be stored on a shelf, in a drawer or crate like regular diapers. All ready to snap on for a quick diaper change.
